Alpine Islands

Title: Biogeography of plant community assembly in alpine islands
Project leader: Borja Jiménez-Alfaro
Funding: Marie Curie Actions / Principate of Asturias (CLARIN COFUND)
Description: This study aims to understand patterns and processes influencing alpine plant diversity at a multi-regional scale. Using high-mountain (alpine and oromediterranean) ecosystems of southern Europe as the study system and a comprehensive database of community observations, major aims include (1) unveiling the historical and ecological drivers of plant diversity at regional and patch scale, (2) understanding the influence of aridity gradients in the taxonomic and functional diveris, and (3) addressing spatial and environmental drivers of alpine plant metacommunities.
Research team: Sylvain Abdulhak, Ariel Bergamini, Maria Laura Carranza, Renata Ćušterevska, Xavier Font, Gianpietro Giusso del Galdo, Nevena Kuzmanović, Corrado Marcenó, Đorđije Milanović, Ezther Ruprecht, Jozef Sibik, Angela Stanisci, Kiril Vassilev1, Wolfgang Willner
